Who is Harry Lime?
If you are familiar with Portable Update, a long time supporter, or you have dug deep into the app, you might came across the name of 'Harry Lime'.
Harry Lime is the fictional name chosen as pseudonym by Luigi Stilo, the creator and maintainer of Portable Update.
Although we are not entirely certain, it was probably in honour of the character interpreted by Orson Welles in the film "The Third Man" from 1949.
Luigi was an Italian IT system administrator and designer.
He studied computer science in his hometown university, Salerno; he was living in Rome; he was married to Cinzia and was father to Lorenzo, 34, and Elisa, 24.
He was passionate about all kinds of innovation in any technology. He supported humanitarian actions.
Luigi kept working on this Portable Update, right until the end, because he believed in the idea of bringing technology access to everyone, no matter how isolated or difficult their locations were. He believed in free solutions, because he saw the importance of working to help others, and not getting much in return.
One of the highest honours that Portable Update experienced was being chosen by the globally active humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières. This really made us all indescribably proud.
Luigi got ill in 2015 and died in the summer of 2016 at the age of 57; since then, this website has been left untouched; therefore, at the moment, we do not have the chance to provide you with the assistance and support that he was so keen to give.
